Homemade Apple Pop Tarts (Printer-Friendly Version)

Flaky pastries filled with spiced apples and topped with a sweet glaze, ideal for fall.

# What You'll Need:

→ Pastry

01 - 2 refrigerated pie crusts
02 - 1 egg, beaten (for sealing and brushing)

→ Filling

03 - 2 medium apples, peeled and diced
04 - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
05 - 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
06 - 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
07 - 1 tablespoon lemon juice
08 - Optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg or a splash of vanilla extract

→ Glaze

09 - 3/4 cup powdered sugar
10 - 1 to 2 tablespoons milk
11 - Optional: 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon or drizzle of caramel

# Steps to Follow:

01 - Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
02 - In a skillet, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, flour, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat until apples soften, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
03 - Roll out the pie crusts if needed, then cut into approximately 3 by 4 inch rectangles.
04 - Place spoonfuls of cooled apple filling onto half of the rectangles, leaving edges clear. Brush borders with beaten egg. Cover with remaining rectangles and press edges to seal using a fork. Poke several holes in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
05 - Brush tops with the remaining egg wash. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes until golden brown.
06 - Allow pop tarts to cool slightly. Mix powdered sugar with milk and optional cinnamon or caramel, then drizzle glaze over the pastries.

# Additional Tips:

01 - For enhanced flavor, add nutmeg to the filling or vanilla to the glaze.
