Place sliced carrots in a large saucepan and add enough water to cover them by about 1 inch. Bring to a boil over high heat, then cover and cook for 8 to 10 minutes until carrots are nearly tender.

Drain cooked carrots thoroughly in a colander and set aside.

Return empty saucepan to medium-low heat. Add butter, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Stir until butter is melted and all ingredients are fully combined.

Return drained carrots to pot with brown sugar glaze. Toss to coat evenly and cook, stirring frequently, for 4 to 5 minutes until carrots are glossy and fully glazed.

Transfer glazed carrots to a serving dish and sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top if desired. Serve immediately.
